Héctor Ulises Passarella, born in Florida, Uruguay, in 1955, is considered one of the best bandoneón players and one of the most interesting composers of modern Tango.
The unmistakable sound and the particular expressiveness of his phrasing have won him the admiration of public, critics, musicians (Luis Bacalov, Myung- Whun Chung, Ionescu Galati, Leo Brawer, Donato Renzetti, and many others), and directors, such as Emidio Greco, Michael Radford, Robert Duvall.
After achieving great success in South America, he has been constantly invited to give concerts as a soloist and with his ensemble in the most important theatres in Europe: London’s Barbican Centre, the “Rudulfinum” of Prague ,the “Megaron” of Athens, the “Parco della Musica” in Rome, etc...
Among his numerous recordings, of particular interest are the CD “Màs allà del Tango”, which highlights his research into the composition and interpretation of the Tango, as well as his interpretation of Bacalov's “Misa Tango” as soloist in the Orchestra of Santa Cecilia, directed by Myung-Whun Chung, recorded by Deutsche Grammophone. Memorable is his interpretation of “Il Postino: The Postman” movie soundtrack.
